Event Description
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problem in children and adolescents, affecting about 13% or one in every eight school-going youngsters. Many anxious children experience serious problems at home, in school, and with peers. If untreated, youngsters with anxiety are at higher risk for academic underachievement, substance use and school drop-out. Scientific evidence indicates that, with timely recognition and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), up to 80% of these youngsters can successfully conquer anxiety. CBT is regarded by experts as the gold standard of treatment for anxiety. Unfortunately, the majority of anxious children do not receive CBT, due in part to a significant shortage of professionals with expertise in CBT with youngsters. Clinicians often find it difficult to access in-depth clinical training in CBT. Further, some forms of anxiety and OCD can be difficult to treat, and co-morbid conditions can make treatment quite challenging.Disclaimer
