Course Overview

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis is resolved.

Mental Health First Aid: Basic is a 12-hour course focused on adults interacting with adults in all environments. The course discusses the following mental disorders:

Mood-related disorders
Acute stress reaction
Substance-related disorders
Anxiety and trauma related disorders
Every year, 1 in 5 Canadians will experience mental health problems or illnesses

Crisis first aid skills for the following situations are learned:

Substance overdose
Suicidal behaviour
Panic attack
Acute stress reaction
Psychotic episode

Instructor

Adrianne SequeiraAdrianne Sequeira, MDiv, Registered Psychotherapist, Certified Psychoanalyst, Registered Nurse

Adrianne is a Registered Psychotherapist, Psychoanalyst and a Registered Nurse with a Certificate in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. She instructs two courses at Tyndale Seminary (Psychopathology and Addictions), and teaches Mental Health First Aid (both, Basic, and for Adults who interact with Youth). She offers psychoanalytic psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families and psychoanalysis for individuals. Adrianne has worked in the area of psychiatric/mental health for over 20 years. Her main area of expertise is addictions and concurrent disorders.

Certification

A Professional Development Certificate will be provided by Mental Health Commission of Canada after successful completion of the two-day training. Participants must attend the full course to qualify for certification.

Lunch

Bring your own lunch or take advantage of Tyndale’s cafeteria and coffee shop on campus.

Parking

Participants will need to pay for their parking ($4 per day) at the main reception desk or in cash at the event. You will need to provide your license plate number to avoid being ticketed.

Cost

Early Bird (Expires March 22nd, 2017): $200*.
Regular Admission (Effective March 22nd, 2017): $250*.
Full-Time Student/Tyndale Staff & Alumni Rate: $200*.

*Fees include HST, all course material, and coffee with light refreshments for both training days.

Refund Policy

A $25 administrative fee will be retained on refunds before March 22nd, 2017. A $50 fee will be retained on all refunds after March 22nd.
